Thoughts from a Yellow Dog Democrat living in Olympia, in the great BLUE state of Washington

I am a liberal because it is the political philosophy of freedom and equality. And I am a progressive because it is the political path to a better future. And I am a Democrat because it is the political party that believes in freedom, equality and progress. -- Digby

Which Newspapers Misled Our Government and Caused Deaths?

It seems like the whole Bush administration had the unfortunate luck to read newspapers that had the news in their headline wrong. The Bush administration have told us that they didn't respond quicker because the headline said "New Orleans Spared" on Tuesday, August 30th edition. It was the newspapers' fault.

I wondered which newspapers had it wrong and decided to do a little research. Luckily the Newseum makes it easy. I went to their archieve for 8/30 and they listed 477 front pages for that date.

Ah!Ha!! I found the culprit. Who would of thought that the whole Bush administration reads the same one newspaper!? Yes, ONE. Which one has this honor? The Rockville Register Star, of Rockford, Ill.

Sure enough -- their headline for that date was "New Orleans spared from biblical ruin."

Too bad our leaders don't read some of the other newspapers -- but I guess when you find one you like -- why change?
